Getting Involved with the WebAPP Community

Published on 16/10/06 at 00:16:35 NZST by Admin

You don't have to be a programmer or professional graphics designer to assist in the WebAPP community. If you would like to assist in any way, check the list below to see what areas you might already have some expertise. WebAPP is licensed under GNU/GPL and is Open Source. The more people helping to develop WebAPP, the better it will continue in its growth.

Various Ways You Can Get Involved

1. Submit bug reports

2. Help other WebAPP users in the support forum

3. Contact WebAPP users who have sites that are not yet updated with the latest release

4. Help with sharing the WebAPP goals with others

5. If you know Perl help with coding

6. If you know HTML or CSS help with making or tweaking themes

7. Write documentation

8. Create mods or plugins

9. Help answer questions by other users

Reporting Bugs

Download the latest edition of WebAPP. Before submitting a bug report, search the Bug Report forum to make sure your bug hasn't already been reported. If it has, then feel free to add any extra details you can.

Writing Documentation

We need documentation for users and developers of WebAPP. If you write your own code, document it. Much of the existing code isn't very well documented. In the process of figuring things out, try and document your discoveries.

Contact WebAPP Sites Having Cross-Browser Problems

Do your favorite WebAPP sites work properly in IE but not in other popular browsers? If not then you can help by contacting web sites and developers to develop cross-browser, standards-based content which supports popular browsers. Sometimes it just might be that their theme is outdated and needs a little fixing up. There's a place for that too.

Forum Help

You can help with WebAPP by answering users' questions in the Support Forums. Keep an eye out for people asking for help. Be nice. No question is ever too silly. "Newbies" are people too and developers/coders are not "gods". Avoid the use of foul language and don't put down people for their questions. If a user is causing trouble, report it to the admins and they will be taken care of.

WebAPP is a community

Members come from all walks of life and have varied backgrounds. WebAPP is a community of people with respect towards each other, wherever they come from. By respecting the rights of others and not pushing one's ideals on the community, all can get along and the WebAPP community continues to grow and the script gets better. Share your ideas in the appropriate forums.
